The Port of Tilbury is located on the River Thames in Tilbury, Essex and first opened in 1886 and became part of the newly established Port of London Authority in 1909.
A new container terminal was opened in 1967 and in 1978 a new deep-water berth was opened for large container ships.
In 1992, the port was privatised and became part of the Forth Ports group organisation and is currently the largest of 8 ports owned by the company.
The port has an annual throughput of 16 million tonnes per annum, which makes it the largest port on the Thames. The port currently supports services both on short and deep-sea vessels, supporting ro-ro, containers, forest products, grain and bulks liquid.
Global Container Services has direct access to all parts of the port, which are inventory linked through both CNS and Destin8 to HMRC. We handle daily shipments through Tilbury.
